Xiwen Huang loves travelling, visiting historical and art museums, and finding delicious food worldwide.
Her goals while in graduate school include continuing to voluntarily share the computational skills she's acquired, broadening the impact on underrepresented groups in our community. As someone who has navigated the transition from an arts and social science background to mastering data analysis tools, she aims to be a conduit for women striving to enhance their competitiveness in the workplace.
Her goals after earning her doctoral degree, her primary professional objective is to persist in academic research in social inequality as a professor, research scientist and social activist.
Xiwen’ s research interests lie in the gender inequality intersecting with race within the U.S. labor market. She wants to examine how social networks as a and ties, as major forms of social capital, produce and reproduce career barriers for highly skilled job seekers with marginalized identities. In her previous research, she mainly use quantitative methods. In the future, she aims to enhance the application of computational social science skills and mixed methods as a complement to traditional quantitative methods in studying the broader issues of inequality.
