Rujun (Ruth) Zhang is an international student from Yichang, Mainland China. She is broadly interested in the sociology of work and labor and is deeply concerned with topics including stratification, inequality and social justice, which drive her academic endeavors as well as personal reflections. Her most recent research examines temporary immigrants' insecure migratory status, their pursuit of a permanent legal status in receiving countries, and how these affect their overall life as well as career choices.
Ruth received her Bachelor's degree in sociology from Tsinghua University, China in 2022, with a minor in English language and literature. She received her Master's degree in sociology from University of Alberta, Canada in 2025.
