During August's American Sociological Association's annual meetings, multiple WashU faculty - both new and established - were recognized for their contributions to their respective areas of scholarship.

Chaeyoon Lim, incoming Professor of Sociology, received the Outstanding Published Article Award from the ASA Section on Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity for his co-authored article, “Civic Lessons That Last? Religiosity and Volunteering on the Way to Adulthood.”

Liz Chiarello, incoming Associate Professor of Sociology, received three awards: 

• the Distinguished Scholarly Paper Award from the ASA Section on Drugs and Society and the Eliot Freidson Outstanding Publication Award, granted by the ASA Section on Medical Sociology for “Trojan Horse Technologies: Smuggling Criminal-Legal Logics into Healthcare Practice."
• the Donald W. Light Award for Applied or Public Practice of Medical Sociology from the ASA Section on Medical Sociology for her book, Policing Patients: Treatment and Surveillance on the Frontlines of the Opioid Crisis.

Margot Moinester, Assistant Professor of Sociology, received two awards for her article, “The Control Boom: US Interior Immigration Enforcement, 1971 – 2010.":

• the Louis Wirth Best Article Award, presented by the ASA Section on International Migration
• the Award for Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship in Population from the ASA Section on Sociology of Population
