Undergraduate Researchers in the Sociology Department

Two Undergraduates studying Sociology made their mark on this week's Undergraduate Research Symposium, juniors Marc Ridgell and David Bradford.

Marc Ridgell, a junior Mellon Mays fellow at WashU studying Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, African and African American Studies, and Sociology, is presenting their ongoing research project at this week’s Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium. Their project begin over the summer when they participated in the Summer Research Early Identification Program at the University of Chicago. The project examines racism in Boystown, Chicago’s gay neighborhood. Marc utilized content analysis to highlight instances of Black queer resistance across social media platforms against racism in Boystown.

David Bradford is a Junior with a second major in Sociology. He worked in the Fluid Biomarker Core of the Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center at WashU’s medical school. His project investigated novel biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. While he didn’t find any connections to the disease, he did find novel associations between a biomarker called IL-13 and age and another biomarker BDNF and educational level.
