Adia Harvey Wingfield Inducted as the Mary Tileston Hemenway Professor of Arts and Sciences

On February 6, 2020, Dr. Adia Harvey Wingfield was inducted as the Mary Tileston Hemenway Professor of Arts and Sciences. The induction ceremony was held in the Holmes Lounge in Ridgley Hall. Dean Barbara A. Schaal spoke on the important contributions of Mary Tileston Hemenway in education. Mary Tileston Hemenway was a philanthropist who donated money to the betterment of public schools, among other achievements.

Dr. David Cunningham, the Chair of the Department of Sociology, had the pleasure of introducing Dr. Wingfield. Both David and Adia helped found the current Sociology department. David spoke highly of Adia's research and her dedication to the department. Dr. Wingfield received her medal of recognition and gave a powerful presentation on the current state of 'work,' and what the job market will look like in the future.

Guests of the installation ceremony enjoyed hor d'oeuvres and cocktails at the reception afterwards. It was an engaging evening and a fantastic highlight of what our professors are doing in the Department of Sociology. Congratulations Dr. Adia Harvey Wingfield!
