Tanya Clement, assistant professor in the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin. Digitizing radio collections is a task that can be partly automated, but describing a recording such that its contents, including identified speakers, are discoverable requires a labor-intensive workflow that includes audio labeling and, sometimes, gender identification. This talk discusses how these workflows can reflect ingrained ideas about identity and authority as part of a High Performance South Technologies for Access and Scholarship project identifying speakers, such as Terry Gross of NPR's Fresh Air, in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.
