Protecting LGBTQ+ Progress in Challenging Times

During his long and distinguished legal career, James Esseks has been at the forefront of some of the most significant legal battles for LGBTQ+ rights in America, including the right to marry nationwide, the overturning of DOMA, and the inclusion of transgender people under Title VII protection against sex discrimination. Since 2010 he has directed the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender & HIV Project for the ACLU, responsible for ensuring the equal treatment of LGBT people and people living with HIV.
